The Polar Bear is Lost!

We were watching Planet Earth Antarctica on TV one night. If you have never watched a Planet Earth Episode, rent it soon. You will not be disappointed. It is simply amazing and beautiful. They way they capture life all over the world. God’s work is BEAUTIFUL!

The one we were watching was about Antarctica. They showed us the birds, the penguins, the different seasons, and then the polar bears.

The momma bear and her 2 cubs come out of hibernation. Very cute and adorable looking.

They start walking around searching for food and the 2 cubs start to play with each other. Sliding down a big hill and romping all over the place. Just like siblings would do.

Then the camera shows a male polar bear. Big fellow. He is searching for food as well.

He walks and walks and walks and walks. Then you see him swimming. And he swims and swims and swims. I think they said he swam for 60 miles. Impressive!

He finally finds land and sees a whole bunch of walruses. You get excited for him. He tries to grab one for food but they are so big and blubbery he can’t sink his teeth into their skin. So he’ll try the next one. But has no luck.

Poor bear.

At this point the poor bear is tired and probably has no strength since it's been months since his last meal. He gives up. He just flopped himself down on the snow and that was that. The camera men went on to something else. I guess we can figure out what happened to this male polar bear. Hopefully it ended in a happy ending.

Terrell is sitting next to me. I look down and his knees are pulled up to his chest, his face buried in his hands.

I asked him what was the matter and he replies sobbing, tears streaming down his face and frustrated “The polar bear is lost, mom and he has no food! He can’t eat!” Then he gets up and darts up the stairs. I guess he couldn’t bear (hehehe) to watch anymore. It was very sad. I was on the verge of tears myself.

Aaaawwwweeee. He’s got such a soft and caring heart. What a sweetheart!

Yes, that would have been the perfect opportunity for a teaching lesson (as my mother-in-law pointed out), but I missed it. Hopefully there will be other opportunities for me to teach him about that.

These photos are not from Planet Earth. I just googled and copied these photos.
