Colonial Day
Friday at school was Colonial Day for the 4th graders. Since they will not be able to go to Jamestown this year, the 4th grade teachers decided to do a Colonial Day. The kids made hats and wore them all day and they had the option of wearing a long black skirt with a white top.
They were divided up into groups of 11 or 12 and went around each room, every 30 minutes, doing different activities that the people in the colonial days would have done. They got to make candles, weave, make their own toys and games, make a rafia broom (I volunteered to help make the brooms), marbelized paper, stenciling, tin punch art, and make a clothespin doll.
Kierra is holding up a candle she made.
They had a break during the day to show the parents the Virginia Reel dance. They did a wonderful job. After they showed us their dance we had the opportunity to do it with them. It was alot of fun. I remember doing this when I was younger.
As the kids came into the station I was assigned too, rafia brooms, I asked how they liked colonial day and they all loved it and was having a really good time.
It was really neat.
